How Lecture Ear actually works

📝 Setting up your account

Sign up with your email and a password. You'll get a confirmation email with a link — click it to activate your account. Lecture Ear is completely free right now while we're in our trial phase — paid plans are coming later, and we'll give plenty of notice before anything changes.

• Didn't get the email? The login page has a "Resend verification email" option if you try to log in before confirming.
• Browser matters: live transcription needs a Chromium browser — Chrome or Edge. Other browsers can still be used for the Study Library and study guides, just not live listening.

🎙 Using Lecture Ear

This is the tool you open during class. From the home dashboard, click "Lecture Ear."

• Start listening and place your laptop where it can hear the room. Words appear as they're recognized — greyed out while still being processed, then locked in.
• Fix mistakes anytime: hover any line in the transcript and click the pencil icon to correct something the mic misheard.
• Notes: type your own alongside the transcript, or click "Summarize everything captured" to get an organized recap pulling from the transcript, any caught questions, and what you've typed.
• Photos: snap a picture of a slide or whiteboard right from the Notes panel — it attaches to that session.

⚡ Catching questions

Whenever something in the transcript sounds like a question — starts with "what," "how," "is," ends in a question mark, and so on — it gets highlighted and sent off for a quick answer.

• Answers show up in the Questions panel within a few seconds, short enough to glance at if you're called on.
• This runs automatically the whole time you're listening — no button to press.

📁 Study Library & folders

Your Study Library is where lectures get organized long-term. From the Notes panel in Lecture Ear, click "💾 Save notes to my library."

• Classes are folders — "Bio 101," "Art History," whatever you're taking. Create a new one right from the save form, or pick an existing one.
• Only your notes/summary get saved here, not the raw transcript — so your library stays a clean set of things worth studying from, not clutter.
• In the library itself, click into any class to see its saved lectures by date, rename or delete classes, and browse everything with "All classes."

📎 Attaching files

Any saved lecture in your library can have files attached — click "📎 Files" next to it.

• PDFs, PowerPoint slides (.pptx), images, and text/markdown files get their content read into any study guide you build from that lecture — a slide deck or a photo of a handout can genuinely shape your flashcards and quiz questions.
• Other file types can still be attached and downloaded for reference, they just won't be read into the AI-generated content.

🧩 Building a study guide

In the Study Library, check off one or more saved lectures — even across different classes, like combining a whole unit before a midterm. You can also attach a file (PDF, PowerPoint, photo, text) right there without it needing to belong to any saved lecture first. Then click "Make Study Guide."

• It generates five tabs at once: Concepts (an organized study sheet), Flashcards, Matching, Concept Blitz (fast-paced fill-in-the-blank), and Quiz Me.
• Flashcards work like Quizlet: click to flip, then mark each card "Know" or "Still learning" — it'll auto-advance, and afterward you can shuffle, restart the full deck, or review just the ones you marked "still learning."
• Quiz Me is built on demand — pick a difficulty (Easy, Medium, Hard) and how many questions (up to 40), then click "Create Quiz." It only ever generates exactly what you ask for, so you're not paying for a big batch of questions you might not use.
• This takes 10–20 seconds since it's a handful of things generating together — the button will tell you it's working.
• Every guide is saved, so you can reopen it later from the library without generating it again.

💡 Tips for best results

• Fix any obviously mis-heard lines in the transcript before summarizing — it makes the recap and any study guide built from that lecture noticeably better.
• Save notes right after class while it's fresh, rather than batching several lectures at once.
• For a study guide spanning multiple lectures, pick ones that are actually related — mixing unrelated topics dilutes how focused the flashcards and quiz end up being.
